History of Barbie Page
Ever wonder where Barbie originated from? Or what her full name is?
Barbie's
full name is Barbie Millicent Roberts. She is from Willows, Wisconsin and went
to Willows High School.
Barbie was
created by Ruth and Elliot Handler. Ruth saw her daughter imagining that her
paper dolls were grown up and decided that there needed to be a role model to
inspire girls to think about what they could be when they grew up. Most of the
dolls on the market at the time were baby dolls. So, Ruth named the doll after
her daughter, Barbara.
Barbie was designed after a Lilli doll, Ruth purchased in Germany. The Lilli doll was based on a comic strip and was a sexy character aimed at men. Ruth made a few alterations and Barbie was created in 1959.
